it’s a common misconception that if a product stings or tingles it must be working. the truth is, you’re most likely disrupting your skin’s protective barrier (designed to keep moisture in and irritants out). that tight, squeeky clean feeling after you wash your face is actually a sign of your skin crying for help, because it’s been stripped of its natural oils. when a product stings, it’s either too harsh for your skin or reacting to being combined with another product (ie: AHAs/BHAs and retinol). if your skin experiences the following symptoms after using a product, it’s time to toss it: redness, irritation, breakouts, dryness, and flakiness
*the only time a stinging/tingling sensation is appropriate is when it’s been administered by a skincare professional*
PS. those black masks that make people look like their in legit pain trying to peel them off… not ok

what is LED light therapy – and does it live up to its claims?

since becoming popularized by celebrity facialists, LED light therapy is everywhere. from serial killer-looking masks, to handhelds and professional panels, it’s become the insta-worthy skin treatment for everything from acne to fine lines. sounds like voodoo magic, sure, but there are plenty of studies to back up the benefits it promises…

HOP APPROVED / hyaluronic acid intensifier x SkinCeuticals

when it comes to hydration, this serum is in a league of its own. it amplifies the skin’s hyaluronic acid levels that dramatically deplete with age. it contains a high concentration of pure hyaluronic acid, proxylane, liquiorice root (great for brightening), and purple rice (for preserving hyaluronic acid content) to plump, hydrate, and smooth the skin. it’s beneficial for all skin types, especially for those with dry and dehydrated skin, and anyone looking to improve overall texture
how to use
-if using in the morning, apply 4-6 drops after vitamin c serum, pressing & patting into the skin
-if using with a retinol at night, apply after retinol
*good rule of thumb* HA serum should be last step before moisturizer

HOP APPROVED / @drdennisgross peel pads

chemical > mechanical exfoliation ALWAYS

we never use anything abrasive such as scrubs or a clarisonic as they can be very damaging and are a surefire way to spread bacteria. these non-abrasive peel pads contain a combination of acids that work to remove the rough, surface layer of dead skin cells by dissolving the bonds that hold them together without running the risk of damaging/tearing your skin. they also deliver powerful anti-aging actives & nourish the skin

we exfoliate 2-3x/wk at night post-cleansing. skip toner and follow with your serums. we did a vid on how to use them here

skin heroes we swear by

being immersed in the beauty industry has exposed us to a lot of products, treatments and techniques. we’ve witnessed our fair share of nonsense, gimmicks and false promises, which is why when we find something that really works, we stick with it and share it with you. although routine and consistency is something we preach, experimenting and trying new things is how you continue to evolve

we promised to be the guinea pigs and only bring you the best of the best, which is why we’ve compiled a list of the skin heroes we swear by based on scientific research, proven results and a great deal of trial & error…
