there’s nothing worse than an unintentional afro… while there are a number of reasons causing your hair to frizz out (weather, diet, type of shampoo, etc.), the underlying cause of your suffering stands is due to dehydration.

if your hair’s wigging out on you, here are a few tips to help tame that mane…

wash less: 3x/wk at most.  start by rinsing shampoo with cool water. this helps seal the hair follicle and protect blondes from getting brassy. read our post here on how to last a week between washes.

use a deep conditioner: when your regular condish isn’t doing the trick, take it up a notch by applying a deep conditioning mask like kerastase nutrition masque. this coats the hair shaft and creates a protective barrier making it harder to absorb external moisture (aka frizz catalyst). leave on for 5-10 mins.

apply a leave-in conditioner: for those prone to frizz, always apply a leave-in conditioner post shower like this one by oribe. it adds that extra boost of moisture to thirsty hair and aids in detangling- keeping you away from that dreadful brush! see our post on wet hair care

get an get an ionic dryer: if you must blow dry go with an ionic dryer. they reduce frizz by compressing the cuticle.

hair serum: one of the biggest solutions for frizz. hair serums are silicon based and act as a mask on the hair. frizzy hair simply cannot survive the real world without a serum. apply after styling for that silky shine you see in those pantene commercials.

use a curling iron: even if your hair is already curly, wrapping those frizzy strands helps keep the puff at bay.

tame flyaways: for those stubborn strands, try a pomade like this one by shu uemura. apply to ends as well for a more piecey look.
